Simon was really in to jazz guitar in his early teens. As he started playing guitar more often not only the interest for the music grew, but also the interest for the instrument itself. So Simon decided to enroll in the conservatory of Ghent for bowed instrument making.

After making some violins, he could make a guitar for his graduation project. He could finally make some archtop guitars! As he got hooked on guitar making, he opened a small workshop in the house of a friend. It was here that he experimented making some electric guitars while doing repairs on various instruments...

Jonas started playing guitar as his cousins had a band but no guitarist. Soon after he found a book about guitars in the local library. After one week he knew the book inside out. He was hooked. After playing in some bands and trading a bunch of guitars, Jonas wanted to learn how to build them. After graduating at internationale lutherie school Antwerpen. He moved to the south of Spain to do an apprenticeship with Daniele Chiesa and Stephen Hill. To learn the art of Spanish guitar making. When he returned home he opened up a small workshop...

As one day Simon contacted Jonas trough mutual friends. They both had small workshops and needed more space. They found a bigger one and started sharing it. After working side by side on own guitars/repairs they started a project together. Throughout this process one thing became very clear. They had a beneficial skillset. This first project results in the birth of the UMA Jetson prototype.
